3 Wishes for Enterprise WordPress in 2023

WordPress has achieved amazing things in the Enterprise market, by many measures it’s one of if not the most popular CMS even amongst the largest companies in the world. But it could be so much more and to maximise the opportunity we need to present a coherent and compelling message.

wordpress.org/enterprise is our shop-front to enterprise, does it reflect the world-leading enterprise platform that we are?

Enhancing Communication, Collaboration, and Integration for a Powerful Enterprise WordPress Experience

1. More Coherent Messaging

Agencies, platforms, and product companies have been successful in marketing WordPress to enterprise customers across a very broad set of niches. However, our decentralisation has led to a lack of consistent messaging about the benefits of Enterprise WordPress. This fragmentation has also made it difficult to respond to competitors’ claims with a unified, authoritative voice.

To address this issue, I would love to see a more coherent definition of Enterprise WordPress and a more unified messaging strategy that highlights its strengths. So collectively we can quickly and effectively respond to industry trends, competitors and analysts claims, and emerging technologies, asserting Enterprise WordPress’s position as a leader in the market.

2. More Enterprise WordPress Community

The WordPress community is one of our most valuable assets, and I think it’s crucial to engage enterprise users more effectively. By creating more opportunities for enterprise professionals—including marketers, product managers, product owners, in-house developers, editors, and decision-makers—to participate in community events, we can foster lifelong advocates for WordPress.

Expanding the reach of WordCamps, meet-ups, and other community gatherings will transform enterprise users from mere consumers of the software into active members of a vibrant, supportive community.

3. Showcase Enterprise Integrations

Another core strength of WordPress is its ability to seamlessly integrate with a wide array of enterprise tools and systems. To showcase this advantage, we must make it easier for enterprise buyers to discover the depth and breadth of available integrations.

Improving the WordPress Plugin directory and adopting more buyer-friendly language could help a lot. We also need to ensure the quality and consistency of available integrations by evaluating the top marketing and publishing tools and solutions and identifying the best options for common enterprise use cases. This may involve highlighting plugins used by enterprise customers, promoting community-contributed canonical sets, or even exploring solutions outside of the .org platform.

As we move forward into 2023 we’re going to continue to focus on closing the gap between WordPress and its Enterprise users. We’ll continue to try to do this through our own work and we’ll continue to engage with the broader enterprise WordPress community to further solidify Enterprise WordPress as the go-to solution for businesses worldwide. By strengthening these key areas, we can elevate the impact of Enterprise WordPress and ensure its continued success in the ever-evolving digital landscape.
